"Now or never. You need me. You will need me…"

Please join us for the opening of CTRL+SHFT's second exhibition, "Now or never. You need me. You will need me…," a group show coinciding with Women's History Month and featuring video and new media work by women artists.
This exhibition aims to situate women as unequivocal agents, operating with quiet authority in roles such as filmmaker, documentarian, or narrator. The exhibition title refers to a line of internal dialogue, excerpted from Jessica Hankey’s video Women’s Club (I.S. & I.K.) (2014), in which an older female character reflects on her self-worth. The character is a member of a one-hundred-year-old club in Los Angeles, originally formed to expand the role of women in civic society. The grouping of exhibited films and new media works in Now or Never reveal widespread social, political, and economic instability — meditating on the question of how to effectively respond and participate in a fractured world.
