In Mutual Incantations Rebekah Erev will make portraits of their work over the last eighteen years on the west coast before moving back east. They will use sculpture, painting, video and performance as an incantation to understand the nature of mutuality. Erev will track memories of making work as a Jew in diaspora on the Nisqually, Duwamish, Squaxin, Ohlone / Lisjan land they have lived on as reverence for the liberation that exists when one is against forgetting. Some of the experiences they will conjure include nine years in a cult, a stint at the Olympia Knitting Mills (former home of K records) and their current work on a film called Queer Mikveh, a Jewish ritual of water immersion.
Rebekah Erev makes objects and creates public ritual as performance / ceremony. Erev’s work invokes the scholarship of re-remembering as relevant, immediate and anti-colonialist in it’s nature. Erev is an ordained kohenet, Hebrew priestess and self-published the Moon Angels / Malakh Halevanah Oracle Deck. They have performed and participated in Open Engagement, HÄXÄN Festival and (Re)Visions Film Festival and shown work throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2014 Erev co-founded a two year collective art school, DIY Art School that met in public libraries.
